Why a FOUNDATIONS book?

How do we know what to believe? Where can we look for faithful, orthodox, correct Christian doctrine?

This is the primary question that spurred the compilation of this book. We have assembled documents – some historic and some we have created ourselves – to serve as a helpful set of guard rails for our church as we navigate the challenge of the modern world.

This book is compiled in chronological order, starting with the oldest documents first. The purpose is to make obvious the development in Christian thinking as some of history’s smartest people put their minds to articulating the gospel and making it applicable to differing cultures and contexts. These are documents that have stood the test of time.

WHAT’S ADDRESSED IN THIS BOOK

  • The Bluewater Catechism

    A catechism that is compiled of tried and true historical documents and The Word, out-ling straightforward answers to very forward questions regarding the faith.

  • Questions such as: What is the duty of those who are rightly baptized?

    It is the duty of those who are rightly baptized to give up themselves to a particular and orderly Church of Jesus Christ so that they may walk blameless in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.

  • HISTORICAL CREEDS

    Such as the Apostle’s Creed, The Nicene Creed, The Athanasian Creed

  • Questions such as: How did Christ, being the Son of God, become man?

    Answer: Christ, the son of God, became man by taking to Himself a true body, and a reasonable soul, being conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the Virgin Mary, and born of her, yet without sin.

  • 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith

    Addressing the belief on the Trinity, Effectual Calling, Assurance of Salvation, Baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and much more…

  • Questions such as: What is required in the second commandment?

    The second commandment requires the receiving, observing, and entirely keeping all religious worship and ordinances that God has appointed in His Word, and to not worship God by images.
